This Is Not Cabo San Lucas Dining
San Jose del Cabo restaurants are the main reason I tell buyers to spend at least three days on the San Jose side before they make a decision. Cabo San Lucas has its nightlife and its tourist-strip restaurants, and there is nothing wrong with that. But San Jose is where Cabo's culinary scene actually lives — and it is not close.
Key Takeaways
- Flora Farms and Acre are both Michelin Guide-recommended — the only two in Los Cabos
- The Art District hosts 15+ restaurants within a six-block walk along Calle Obregón
- Peak season reservations should be booked 2–4 weeks in advance
- Street tacos and mercado plates run $1–$8 USD — you do not need to spend $80 to eat well here
- The Thursday Art Walk (November–June) is the best night for a progressive dinner through the district
Exploring San Jose del Cabo?
Our team knows the neighborhoods — and the restaurants — that make San Jose the quieter, more cultured side of Los Cabos.
Contact UsThe Farm-to-Table Trio: Flora Farms, Acre, and Huerta Los Tamarindos
These three properties put San Jose del Cabo on the culinary map, and they are the reason food writers from the New York Times and Condé Nast Traveler keep flying down here.
Flora Farms
I have taken at least 40 buyers to Flora Farms over the past two years. Not a single one has left unimpressed. The 25-acre organic farm sits in the foothills of the Sierra de la Laguna mountains, about 15 minutes from downtown San Jose. The restaurant — Flora's Field Kitchen — is the heart of it, but the property also includes a bar, a grocery store, an ice cream shop, and a spa.
What to order: the wood-fired pork chop is the signature dish and it is worth the reputation. The pizzas from the outdoor oven are $18–$22 and excellent. The Farmarita — made with hibiscus they grow on-site — is the cocktail you will see at every table. Flora Farms earned a Michelin Guide recommendation and it has held it.
My practical advice: arrive 30 minutes early and walk the back fields. It is genuinely beautiful and gives you context for what you are eating. During peak season (December through March), book your table two to three weeks out. Sunday brunch books even further ahead. Budget $50–$85 per person with drinks.
Acre
Acre is the more design-forward, cocktail-forward sibling to Flora Farms. Set in a palm forest, the property feels like a tropical hideaway — there is an animal sanctuary (donkeys, pygmy goats, peacocks), a treehouse bar, and a mezcal distillery producing their own La Tierra del Acre mezcal.
The food leans contemporary Mexican with global influences. It is beautifully plated, ingredient-driven, and slightly more adventurous than Flora Farms. Acre also has a Michelin Guide recommendation. Budget $60–$95 per person for dinner with cocktails.
Huerta Los Tamarindos
The most underrated of the three. Huerta Los Tamarindos is a working organic farm that offers a tour-and-lunch experience for about $45 per person. The food is traditional Mexican — molcajete salsas, handmade tortillas, slow-cooked meats — and the setting is informal and family-friendly. This is where I send families with kids who want the farm experience without the Flora Farms price point.
The Art District: 15 Restaurants in Six Blocks
The San Jose del Cabo Art District runs along Calle Obregón and the surrounding streets. The Thursday evening Art Walk (November through June, 5–9 PM) opens the gallery doors and brings live music to the sidewalks. It is the best night for a progressive dinner — start with mezcal at one spot, tacos at another, and dessert at a third.
La Lupita Tacos & Mezcal
My go-to when I want great tacos in a setting that does not feel like a taco stand. The menu runs creative — think brisket tacos with smoked chipotle, or shrimp with mango habanero — and the mezcal list is one of the best in Baja. Prices: $15–$30 per person. Walk-in friendly most nights.
Toro Guero
Upscale Mexican in a beautifully restored colonial building. The chef does mole flights and a tasting menu that changes weekly. This is a reservations-recommended spot during peak season. $40–$70 per person.
Jazamango
Chef Alejandro Ruiz (from Oaxacan restaurant Casa Oaxaca) opened Jazamango to bring his Oaxacan technique to Baja ingredients. The result is some of the most thoughtful food in Los Cabos. It books up fast. $50–$80 per person.
Live Where You Love to Eat
San Jose del Cabo's dining scene is one of the top reasons buyers choose this side of the cape. We help you find the neighborhood that fits.
Book a CallLa Playita: The Fishing Village Seafood Row
La Playita is the old fishing village on the east side of San Jose, and it has a row of seafood restaurants right on the beach. This is where the pangas come in each morning, and the fish goes from boat to kitchen in hours, not days.
The Mariscos El Barquito and the seafood stands along the beach serve the freshest ceviche and fish tacos in all of Los Cabos. Full plates of grilled dorado or snapper run $12–$20. This is not a tourist experience — it is where the fishermen eat. La Playita is developing fast (new condos are going in), but the seafood row has not changed.
Downtown and the Mercado Municipal
The Mercado Municipal on Calle Coronado is where San Jose del Cabo eats lunch. Stalls serve birria, tacos de guisado, pozole, and tortas for $3–$8 USD. It is loud, fast, and excellent. This is the spot I recommend for buyers who want to understand what daily life in downtown San Jose actually feels like.
Along Boulevard Mijares — the pedestrian-friendly main street — you will find a mix of tourist restaurants and genuinely good Mexican food. The trick is going one or two blocks off Mijares to find the local spots.

Peak Season vs Green Season Dining
The dining scene shifts dramatically by season. During peak season (November through April), every good restaurant is busy, reservations are required at the top spots, and prices reflect the demand. Many restaurants add prix fixe menus and special events.
During the green season (May through October), the town quiets down. Several restaurants close for vacation (usually August or September). The ones that stay open are often at their best — smaller crowds, more attention from the kitchen, and some offer green-season prix fixe deals. Flora Farms and Acre operate year-round.
Best Neighborhoods for Restaurant Access
If dining is a priority — and for many buyers it is — here is how the neighborhoods stack up:
- Fonatur (Downtown SJD): Walk to the Art District, Mercado, and Mijares restaurants. The most walkable dining neighborhood in all of Los Cabos. Entry prices from $250K.
- La Playita: Seafood row on foot, 5-minute drive to downtown. Growing rapidly. From $300K.
- Palmilla: Has its own resort dining (One&Only) plus 10-minute drive to downtown SJD. From $1M+.
- Puerto Los Cabos: Emerging dining scene within the development, 15-minute drive to downtown. From $600K.
